In my life I guess you can say that I can’t get too
close to people.
I
move a lot and I learned that making a connection with someone could become a
downfall. It could make me feel sadness or make me wish that I didn’t have to
leave them behind. I don’t let people get close to me because of this. Of
course I am not an antisocial person, I do have friends, but I keep them at a
good arm’s length .
My
name is Emma Ricksaw, and this is my story.
Like
I said earlier, I move a lot and I don’t let myself become close to people or
friends. I had just moved to Logan, Utah from France. Logan is a small city but
the mountains and the fresh air reminded me of home. Well then again, my
hometown is only a few hours away from Logan. But it feels nice to be somewhere familiar
and yet somewhere away from my past life. I enjoy creating a new life for
myself every time I move somewhere new.
The
weather is cool due to the chilled month of October falling a pond this world.
I continued to walk down the side walk, walking past small stores and their
cute Halloween decorations. The leaves being blown away by the wind and the
vibrations my boots make when I walk. I go into one of the café’s I see around
and set myself down while a waitress with curly blond hair comes by to take my
order.
It’s
a beautiful day outside and I can’t help but to look out the window and watch
the people drive by in their cars or walk on the sidewalks.
“You seem familiar, have we met?” a person with a
thick Irish accent asks me. I turned my head to see who is asking. He has sea
blue eyes and a lovely face with lovely features. I smile.
“Hello Kevin, I didn’t think you would be here” I
answered, giving him my sly smile I knew he loved. He takes a seat a cross from me and gives me a
light smile. Kevin is an old friend of mine, and the only person I can never
seem to get rid of. He’s not a stalker but he always seems to know my next
move, sometimes I swear he can read my mind.
“So, you do know that I moved away from France to
get away from people I knew, right?” I asked him eyeing him. What the hell was
he doing here? God I hope it isn’t because of her… The waitress comes by to
give me my white moca and asks for Kevin’s order, he asks for the same.
“Emma, why aren’t you letting her know that you are here? Had things
gotten so bad between you two that you had to run away?” He’s staring at me straight
in the eye. I turn my head and continue on doing what I was doing before, people
watching.
“It’s so beautiful this time of year isn’t it? The
leaves are so beautiful! Can you believe how amazing the maintain view is? ” I turn
my head back towards him, he’s annoyed. I take a sip of my coffee and smile. I
love seeing him so annoyed; he always makes a cute face where his lips tense up.
“How are you enjoying Logan?” I ask adding sugar to
my coffee.
“Emma. Why. Aren’t. You. In. France? “He basically spells
out the sentence. He’s glaring at me with thoughs lovely eyes. Kevin turns his
head to the waitress and accepts his coffee, giving her a smile. I wished I had
met Kevin before having had met ‘her’. He is a lovely person. He notices that I
am watching him and he stares right back at me.
“Let me just start a new life Kevin. The people here
don’t know me, and it’s a beautiful place to live. I want the past to become
history. “I am staring him the in his eyes, pleading with him. He shakes his head in defeat.
“You know it won’t be long before she realizes that
you are gone right? Before she starts to look for you? Emma, what happen?”
“I know, but for the moment she doesn’t know that I
have left. I rather not talk about it. I am not even ready to admit to myself.”
I continue to make eye contact with him.
Don’t think about it, clear your mind…
Don’t cry…
We stay like that, watching each other. He moves is
hand over mine. He understands. Kevin had never needed to know what was going
on to know when a person is in pain. He takes his hand back from mine.
“You’re not wearing your ring.” He notes looking
down at my hand.
“If you knew what happen in the last few days, you
would completely understand.” I said, I pull my hand under the table. We
continue drinking our coffee.
